The Company

Our Client is a leading international institution in terms of innovative technology solutions in the Offshore Renewable Energy sector. The R&D Partnerships Manager shall ensure that the business maintains its position as a focal point for the sector and develops a position as the “go to” organisation for research, technical support and innovative collaboration.

Job Role

The responsibilities required in this role are:

  • Develop business and services for the Research & Disruptive Innovation team and support the development of R&D proposals
  • Assist with the development of new R&D added value services and commercial opportunities which are of fundamental benefit to in terms of achieving the public funding revenue growth as part of the company strategic plan
  • Build relationships and Partnerships with key national/international experts and research organisations leading to successful bid participation.  This includes supporting the Head of Strategic Research in actively participating in strategic working groups and steering committees.
  • Generate and develop innovative ideas and identify R&D commercial business opportunities
  • Lead/support the delivery of proposal bids/quotations through efficient preparation of detailed, innovative and robust business cases containing key technical, budget and timing plan content (including funding identified and secured/to be secured)
  • Develop commercial/R&D enquiries by working closely with clients, research providers, colleagues and project partners and by representing the company on commercial and technical issues
  • Support product development strategies to meet business needs and create business opportunities and advise/analyse proposed bids and strategies to aid stakeholder buy-in
  • Support the analysis, understanding and solution search to key problems and challenges in the offshore renewables sector
  • Maintain regular communications with key technology development partners, major turbine OEM’s, tidal developers, universities and research funding councils
  • Be committed to ensuring and maintaining a high standard of health & safety awareness through encouraging safe behaviours
  • Complete ad-hoc duties relevant to the role under the direction of the Line Manager or appointed deputy
  • Undertake any other duties of which the responsibility, experience and skills required fall within the post holder’s capability

The following skills are essential:

  • To succeed in the role, the R&D Partnerships Manager must have and be able to demonstrate the following:
  • A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering/scientific discipline
  • R&D experience including R&D proposal development and business development related to R&D
  • A research background, preferably in offshore renewables
  • Experience in UK and EU R&D projects
  • Track record in preparing and writing successful funding bids at both National and European Commission levels
  • Project planning experience, preferably with Microsoft Project and/or PRINCE2 user experience
  • Experience of working in a relevant industry sector, preferably wind/marine or power/drive train sectors
  • Experience of building consortia, developing R&D proposals and securing funding to enable the delivery of proposals
  • Key technical and commercial background experience relating to product development including intellectual asset management
  • Ability to ensure internally agreed standards and work practices are developed and maintained
  • Management of intellectual property contained within the bid proposals/quotations
  • Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and within a highly-pressured environment
